Based at the Fashion and Textile Museum, the London Style mentoring programme has been about working with designers who are growing their business, who are ready to invest in themselves, and want to benefit from the expertise and insight of mentors who specialise in the creative sector. I am currently involved in photoshoots with the designers, I have just 30 minutes actual studio time for each designer so the pressure is on to come up with some great photos that show their product at it’s best….

Several of my clients are involved in exciting projects re-vamping their online presence, eCommerce websites are becoming a popular way to promote business and most importantly, make sales. One name that I kept hearing about was Vanilla Storm. Being nosey, I had to find out more. Vanilla Storm, it turns out is a very established web design company, working with all types of businesses offering pre-designed or bespoke websites and eCommerce facilities. I don’t want to take good photos, I want to take excellent photos that help market a business and sell a product. I often ask my clients what the images will be used for, who there customer base is, and if they have looked at how the competition uses their imagery. I love it when a designer comes to me with an idea or look that we can build on. With sales and purchasing decisions now often made online, good images to represent your product are essential. But go a step futhur and tie your images into your marketing strategy and you business will go from strength to strength.

Clean white cut out style backgrounds are as popular as ever and the results I am getting from my studio are brilliant white,  perfect if you want your product to be photographed on a neutral background with no shadows or graduations. What a great Open Studio’s, the special launch night on Thursday started well with wine and nibbles from the Modern Pantry, so after a couple of glasses everyone seemed alot happier at having their portrait taken – funny that!   Friday, Saturday and Sunday provided me with many more subjects to photograph, some people couldn’t wait to get in front of the camera and strike a pose, whilst others got dragged in by friends or wives. However, as you can see from the photographs everyone, no matter how reluctant, enjoyed the experience in the end and several designers got some great portraits to use for press purposes too.

With more space and a lift to save your legs, the new Full Focus photography studio is located in St John’s Square two minutes away from my old studio in Clerkenwell.  I also have some great new equipment, and can now offer shadowless super white cut out backgrounds for larger products, as well as full length model shots.

In February I was pleased to see confidence again in my clients, everyone seems to be more up beat and positive about opportunities in 2010 and many designers are re-thinking their marketing strategies.
